Chikmagalur (Karnataka): An FIR was registered against a police sub-inspector in Karnataka on Sunday on charges of assaulting a Dalit man and making him consume urine during an inquiry at the police station.
Arjun Hoskeri has been charged with meting out inhumane treatment to the Dalit youth in Chikmagalur, who faced an inquiry for harassing a married woman.
Based on the complaint filed against the Dalit youth by the woman's husband, Hoskeri summoned the youth to the police station for inquiry. During the inquiry, it is alleged that the policeman beat the Dalit youth and abused him.

The allegations against the policeman were made in a video posted on social media. Dalit organizations filed a separate complaint against the policeman and demanded his suspension.
Chikmagalur Superintendent of Police Hakay Akshay Machindra has tasked Deputy Superintendent of Police TT Prabhu with investigating the case. Hoskeri has been transferred to the SP's office.
