Karnataka police recover explosive gelatin sticks in Dharwad

The Internal Security Division of the Karnataka Police conducted a raid at a stone crusher unit in Kalaghatgi area of Dharwad district and recovered 234 gelatin sticks, a mugger box and other items.

Hubbali (Karnataka): The Internal Security Division of the Karnataka Police on Friday recovered 234 gelatin sticks from a stone crusher unit in Dharwad district.

The police team had conducted a raid at Sivachandran stone crusher unit in Kalaghatgi Taluk.

The team recovered 234 gelatin sticks, mugger box, and other items.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case in the matter.

The development comes after at least five people were killed after a truckload of explosives, suspected to be meant for mining, exploded in Karnataka's Shivamogga on the night of January 21.

The massive explosion took place near a gravels and boulders crushing facility around 10.30 pm, sending shockwaves not only in Shivamogga, but also in neighbouring Chikkamagaluru and Davangere districts.

The victims were reportedly transporting the explosives meant for mining when the explosion occurred. The vehicle was badly mangled and the bodies of the victims were dismembered beyond recognition.
