Bengaluru: Amid the surging numbers of Covid deaths reported in Karnataka, the state government has decided to facilitate the funeral arrangements at crematoriums under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) area limits through a special helpline number.
The government order said that no fee should be collected for the ambulance service to take the deceased to the crematorium and that no fee is to be collected for the cremation of COVID-19 victims.

The new helpline number has been designed for 20 crematoriums.
The new crematorium/cemetery management system should work 24*7.
People can call or Whatsapp on +91 8495998495 to place a request for the date, time and location for the cremation, along with other necessary information to perform the final rites of the deceased.
Using the information, a token number along with a confirmation of the ritual details will be sent to the attendant via SMS. The SMS is to be shown at the crematorium, after which the final rites of the deceased will be carried out.

If any problem persists, Nodal authorities will oversee the issue and will be responsible to resolve it immediately.
They will also maintain the status of the token on the website.
Nearly 18 crematoriums in the city have a capacity of 500 funerals a day.
