Karnataka: Family of sculptors wants govt to save the dying art

Though they consider themselves the best in the business, a sculpting family from Karnataka want the government to act to save the art, as the new age of technological development threatens to drive the art to extinction.

Bidar: In the modern age of mechanised production, a family of sculptors from Karnataka's Bidar district has called for government intervention to save the dying art.

The Gangaram Pawar family from the district's Bylahalli village completely depends on the art of sculpting to make their ends meet.

The master sculptors are especially known for their carved statues of Hindu Gods like Anjaneya, Laxmi, Shiva, Basavanna, among many others. The family says that they are equally good at producing intricate home decor out of stone.

The family claims their sculpting history dates back to the Bahmani Sulatanate era, when their ancestors lent their work to the royal families.

Even the stones used for their art is meticulously chosen, with rocks being brought in only from selected locations in Bagalkot, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.

The role of sculptors in Indian history is significant. Sculptures are destructing these days and artist are also very rarely found. However, In the days of high-tech digital technology. Here is a family to which sculpture is the main supporter for living. Here is a complete detail of that sculptor.

Sculpture is the main source of living to this family who is carving the sculptures of Godess Anjaneya, Laxmi, lord Shiva, Basavanna etc. The Gangaram Pawar family of Byalahalli village in Bhalki taluk of Bidar district is still continuing this job for their living.

The ancestors of this family have done this profession since the time of the Bahumani Sultana's, and they are still continuing this. They import suitable stones from Bagalkot, Maharashtra and Andhra and carve out the statues of God in them.

There artists will not only make the Godess sculptures but also does artworks from stone which will increase the beauty of house.

These days sculpture art is distructing. Hence the sculptors are requesting government to save the art from distruction and develop this further.

ಭಾರತದ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮಹತ್ವದ್ದು.. ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆ ನಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಅಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬ, ಇಲ್ಲೊಬ್ಬ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಸಿಗುವುದೂ ಅಪರೂಪವಾಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ರೆ, ಹೈಟೆಕ್ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದ ಈ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಆಸರೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಆ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿ ಯಾರು? ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಅನ್ನೋದ್ರ ಕಂಪ್ಲೀಟ್ ಡೀಟೇಲ್ಸ್ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ. 

ಆಂಜನೇಯ, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ, ಗಣಪತಿ, ನಂದಿ ಬಸವಣ್ಣ, ಶಿವಲಿಂಗ ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ದೇವರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆತ್ತುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಯೇ ಆಸರೆ. ಬೀದರ್ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಭಾಲ್ಕಿ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಬ್ಯಾಲಹಳ್ಳಿ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಗಂಗಾರಾಮ ಪವಾರ ಕುಟುಂಬಸ್ಥರು ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ತಮ್ಮ ಕುಲ ಕಸುಬು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.   

ಬಹುಮನಿ ಸುಲ್ತಾನರ ಕಾಲದಿಂದಲೂ ಈ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಪೂರ್ವಜರು ಈ ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನೇ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಅದೇ ಕಸುಬು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಕುಟಂಬದವರು ಬಾಗಲಕೋಟೆ, ಮಹಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರ, ಆಂಧ್ರದಿಂದ ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ತಂದು ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆತ್ತನೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಮಾರಾಟ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಇನ್ನು ಈ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ಕೇವಲ ದೇವರ ವಿಗ್ರಹಗಳನ್ನಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ.. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಮನೆಯ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವಂತಹ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕಲ್ಲಿನಿಂದ ತಯಾರಿಸಿ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಶಿಲ್ಪಕಲೆ ನಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದು ಶಿಲ್ಪಿಗಳ ಆಗ್ರಹವಾಗಿದೆ.
