Bengaluru: Karnataka's noted Kannada Dalit poet and activist Siddalingaiah died due to Covid-related complications at a private hospital in the city on Friday. The final rights of the poet was performed at Kalagram as per Buddhism rights and the government honours.
Earlier, Siddhalingaiah's body was kept in Ambedkar Study and Research Center at the Jnana Bharati campus for public view. Following all Covid rules, hundreds of his fans, students, lecturers and literature paid their last respects to the Siddalingaiah.
Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Minister R. Ashok and Bangalore City Collector Manjunath paid their last tributes. All the final rites were conducted as per Buddhism with a Buddha statue nearby the body with a Buddha Bhikku reciting prayers.
