Irked by the actor's behaviour, a mob gathered on the scene began thrashing him.
Police later arrived on the spot and rescued the actor from the mob and took him into custody for questioning.
He was then taken to the hospital for a medical check-up.
However, this is not the first time that the actor, whose real name is Venkataram Laxman, has found himself in the midst of a controversy.
He was evicted from the third season of the Kannada version of Bigg Boss, after he reportedly assaulted singer Ravi Mooruru.
