Flood scare in Karnataka due to heavy rains, many districts waterlogged

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasts heavy rains in Karnataka till July 26 as the South-West monsoon is vigorous. Heavy rains in Karnataka is giving a flood scare to the people staying near the rivers and coastal belt. Roads damaged, traffic snarls and many houses submerged in water as added to people's woes.

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rains in Karnataka till July 26 as the South-West monsoon is vigorous. The IMD has issued an Orange alert for Coastal Karnataka on July 23 and a Yellow alert between July 24 - 26. The IMD has also issued Orange and Yellow alerts for several areas of North and South Karnataka till July 24. Heavy rains have lashed the state in the past few days, rising a flood scare for the people living on the river banks. Let's take a look at the current situation in Karnataka.

Karwar (Uttara Kannada): Heavy downpours are causing some disruption to traffic on National Highway 63 near Arebail in Uttarkannada. A land caved in near Arebail on National Highway 63 connecting Yallapur - Angola. Fortunately, no disaster has occurred. Traffic came to a standstill on both sides of the road. The police and firefighters arrived and cleared the debris. Traffic resumed once again now on the NH 63. It is heavily raining in the Uttara Kannada district, causing some damage to the neighbouring areas.

Flood scare in Karnataka following heavy rains

Sirsi (Uttara Kannada): Six people who have visited Shirley Falls in Yallapur from Hubli have gone missing. Search operations are ongoing since Thursday night. Tourists have reportedly arrived at Shirley Falls in Yallapur Taluk from Hubli. The victims have been identified as Asif Dalait, Ahmad Syed Sheikh, Abataf Saddam Shirahatti, Mabusab Makabulasab Shirahatti, Shanu Bijapuri, Imptiazi Najeerasab Mullah.

Mysore: Due to the continuous rainfall in Wayanad, Kerala, the Kabini reservoir has received an inflow of 22,180 cusecs of water on Thursday night. About 30,800 cusecs of water were released by Kabini reservoir late Thursday night, causing fear of flood in the surrounding villages. The bridge in front of the Kabini reservoir is submerged. Villagers are now living in constant fear of floods. The Kabini reservoir has breached its capacity.

Karwar (Uttara Kannada): The Hubli-Ankola National Highway-63 has been completely submerged due to heavy rains in the Uttara Kannada district. The first floor of the Navami Hotel near Sunkasala was submerged as a result of overflowing water on the highway. This has resulted in more than eight customers and 15 staff getting stranded in the hotel.

At Shirur village of Angola Taluk, a woman was killed when a boat capsized while a flood victim was transported to safe areas. Gangavali river is also overflowing due to heavy rains in Uttara Kannada. More than 50 houses have submerged at Shirur Gadarama.

Dharwad: Due to the heavy rainfall in the district, ditches and lakes are overflowing. A video is going viral in the region which shows some livestock getting washed away in the river. Roads are waterlogged in Dharawad too.

Belgavi: The villagers rescued a young man who was washed away in the waters of the Markandeya River in the Wagawhade village of Belgaum Taluk. The youth identified as Burma Patil was working in his land. Suddenly, water seeped into his land with force and swept him away. The youth somehow managed to cling to a tree branch near a bridge. Wagawade villagers, hearing his cries, rescued him by throwing a rope.

Bagalkot: Due to heavy rains in the district, Waterflow is rising in the Krishna river. Around 30 villages in Jamkhandi Taluk are in imminent danger of flood. Due to the heavy downpour in Maharashtra, water is flowing to the Krishna River through the Koyna Reservoir. Around 1 lakh 12 thousand cusecs of water have been released from the Hipparai Reservoir of the Jamakhandi Taluk in the morning. Krishna River has a capacity of 1 lakh 13 thousand cusecs of water. Therefore, there is already an enormous amount of water in the river, giving concern to the authorities.

Vijayapura: NDRF team rescued 19 passengers from a stranded bus. The bus was stranded near a large lake in the Kolhapur district of Maharashtra around 2 am in the wee hours of the morning. The bus was submerged in the floodwaters of the Krishna River. It was travelling to Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
