Bengaluru: Amid the nationwide coronavirus pandemic, a farmer in Karnataka has been providing cellphones to poor students to make online education accessible for the needy.
Nagendra is a farmer by profession in Shimoga district. He donated a phone to the daughter of a worker because she could not afford one to attend online classes.
"Virtual education during the lockdown has created a class division among the rich and the poor. Economically weaker sections are facing problems in providing education to their children amid these trying times. However, after I saw Uday's daughter unable to attend online classes, I helped her with a phone. Unfortunately, I am not strong financially to donate cell phones to every student. So, I requested my friends and other people over social media to join in and help the children," Nagendra added.

He said many people volunteered and donated cellphones. "So far I have given many mobiles to the needy students, however, I have another ten left with me," the farmer revealed.
"I wasn't being able to attend any of my classes. Mobile all of a sudden became necessary for all of us but I am thankful to the person who has been selflessly working to help us all," Abhishek, a student said.
"Before a mobile phone is handed over to a student, I make sure I know his financial and educational situation.
