Police said Padma used video footage recorded in Mumbai on April 20 last year. In the video, a few policemen are seen beating up a man during the lockdown. Padma allegedly added a background voice to the video in order to make people believe that the incident was reported recently in Karnataka.
In the voiceover, she is also heard tarnishing the image of the Karnataka Police. Padma uploaded this doctored video on Facebook. Believing what they saw and heard in the video, netizens, too, joined Padma in slamming the Karnataka Police.
Taking cognisance of media reports, the police department launched an investigation during which they ascertained the truth. Police said, during interrogation, Padma admitted to her wrongdoing.
