Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti died due to multi-organ failure on Thursday night.
The 55-year-old leader was diagnosed with severe COVID-19 pneumonia on September 2 and had been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over Gasti's demise.
"Rajya Sabha MP Shri Ashok Gasti was a dedicated Karyakarta who worked hard to strengthen the Party in Karnataka. He was passionate about empowering the poor and marginalised sections of society. Anguished by his passing away. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti," PM Modi tweeted.
Gasti was a first time Rajya Sabha member. He was elected to the Upper House from Karnataka in June, this year.
