The case of fraud took place on November 8 when the victim downloaded the app to order a kurta priced Rs 800.

Days after the product didn't arrive, the victim contacted the customer care, the number of which was given on the app. Later, the customer care officer assured Shravanna that she will get her product delivered soon. But before that, she was asked to fill a form through a link which was sent to her phone.

Not knowing that she was walking into a trap, Shravanna filled the form that asked for bank account details. Later she got a call from customer care asking her to share the one-time password (OTP) to complete the formalities. As she parted with the OTP, Shravanna's bank account was debited with Rs 79,600 in four instalments. This was when she realised that someone has cheated her, police informed.

According to police, the fraudsters spoke with the victim in a way that she believed them. However, after the fraud committed, all efforts to contact the customer care went in vain.

People must realise that not all apps hosted by Google Play Store and Apple's iOS are genuine and offer a chance to cheaters to dupe people easily, according to cyber experts.

Netizens have to be careful before downloading random apps that may contain malware and spyware.
