Bengaluru: A 60-year-old woman, who tested positive for the Covid-19, died on Monday morning at the doorstep of Victoria Hospital, after she was allegedly denied admission. The kin of the deceased claimed that the hospital did not admit the patient due to 'non-availability of hospital beds'.

They alleged that they had waited outside the hospital gate for hours but were denied treatment.

"We were here since 11 am but no treatment has been provided. We went to hospitals after hospitals but all in vain. We are not educated enough to know all these COVID-19 protocols. They are not letting inside and locked the gate also," the family members alleged.

The woman had complained of breathing issues a few days back after which she underwent the COVID-19 test. After testing positive for the virus, she was taken to several hospitals but was denied admission over the non-availability of beds.

The relatives of the COVID-19 patient, livid over the hospital's apathy, staged a protest outside the main gate demanding justice.

The agitated family members claimed, "After the patient died, the department people are asking us not to create a scene here. We want justice. If no one turns out, we will place the dead body in front of the hospital gate and stage the protest. We won't disturb others but our protest will continue.

The body of the COVID-19 deceased has been sent for post-mortem by the hospital authorities, who have refused to comment on the matter.

However, this is not the first instance of a COVID-19 patient dying after being denied admission by hospitals in Bengaluru. Earlier, another 52-year-old man had died in front of Bowring Hospital after several hospitals refused to admit him.

According to the government policy, the laboratory report must be handed over to the admitting hospital through Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) which had denied admission to several patients leading to their death.
