In a case of honour killing, four members of a boy's family were murdered by the girl’s family for their love marriage at Sindhanur in Karnataka's Raichur.

Raichur (Karnataka): Four people were brutally killed and three persons sustained grievous injuries by miscreants over an inter-family feud in Karnataka's Raichur district on Saturday. This gruesome killing took place in Sindhanuru Town of the district.

The deceased persons have been identified as Savitramma(55), Shreedevi(38), Hanumesh(35), Nagraj(33) of the same town. The accused persons were arrested by local police.

According to police sources, Mounesh (21) and Manjula (18) had married a few months ago after courting each other for over a year. They were living separately form their family as Manjula's family members were against her inter-caste marriage.

Both had visited Manjula’s house, however, Manjula’s family already opposed to their relationship, refused to accept them. Majula's family members also threatened to kill Mounesh and his family members, police said.

Following this, the couple lodged a complaint with the Sindhanur police station. Angered over Mounesh's behaviour, Manjula’s family came to the Mounesh’s home and quarrelled with his family. The quarrelled took an ugly turn and escalated leading to fatal attacks with iron rods on four of Mounesh’s family members.

While Mounesh’s mother Sumitramma, uncles Nagaraja, Hanumesha and aunt Sridevi died on the spot, his father Irappa (65), two sisters Revati (20) and Taiamma (25) were critically injured sustaining multiple fractures.

On being informed about the incident, Sindhanur police reached the spot and arrested four accused persons. Police have also sent the bodies to a nearby hospital for postmortem.

Police have started interrogating the Manjula's family members and further investigation is underway, sources said.
