2020 Bengaluru child theft case: DNA samples of real parents match with child

In a recent development to the 2020 Bengaluru child theft case, the DNA samples of Husnabanu and Naveed Pasha have matched with the child, who was kidnapped by a psychiatrist from a Karnataka government hospital.

Bengaluru: The DNA samples of the parents of the child, who was kidnapped by a psychiatrist from a Karnataka government hospital in 2020, has matched with the child giving a clear way to complete legal proceedings, police said on Wednesday. With this, the child will be soon handed over to the real parents, police added.

The Karnataka High Court had ordered to conduct a DNA test to find the real parents of the child, who was abducted and sold to a Koppal-based couple for Rs 15 lakhs by the psychiatrist. Around five people including the child were tested for DNA. The DNA report and blood samples submitted by Forensic Science Laboratory officials were handed over to the High Court and the Child Welfare Committee of the Southern Division.

The report stated that Bengaluru-based Husnabanu and Naveed Pasha are the real parents of the child and they will be reunited after a year. Earlier, police arrested a doctor who stole a newborn baby on May 29 2020 from the BBMP Maternity Hospital in Chamarajapete. Rashmi, a psychiatrist from North Karnataka, had stolen the baby and sold it to another couple.

A case was registered at Chamarajapete station in connection with the incident. After a continuous operation lasting one year, police tracked the child and taken it to the city from a rented parent. Based on the CCTV footage and the network tower dump police conducted an inquiry. After interrogating nearly 800 people, police nabbed Rashmi who initially claimed that the child was adopted legally.
