Jharkhand: Urging the management to fulfill their long pending demand of 'wage revision', about 53 workers of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UICL) staged a protest inside the Turmdih mines in Jadugora.
The protest, which commenced from Monday morning, was supported by 4600 UICL workers, who extended solidarity by staging a demonstration in front of the company's main entrance.
Raising slogans - 'Humari Maange Puri Karo' (Fulfill our Demands), the protestors claimed that the issue of wage revision, which had been discussed several times, was neglected by the UICL management.
They further stated that, as their repeated pleas went unheard they had resorted to the protest and would continue until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, after 24 hours of the uninterrupted strike, the UICL management had deployed security officials (including CISF) to prevent any untoward incidents at the facility.
The condition of one of the workers named Balia Soren worsened in the course of the strike and was immediately evacuated from the mine.
The worker was sent to UCIL Hospital where was given oxygen and then sent to Jamshedpur's TMH Hospital.
Besides this, reports indicated that the condition of two more workers was on the decline.
