Ranchi (Jharkhand): After holding a meeting with interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Alamgir Alam, Congress MLA from Jharkhand, said that the decision on a new state party chief would be taken by Gandhi.
Alam said, "Sonia Gandhi will decide who will be the new President of Congress in Jharkhand. We have left the decision on her".
When asked if he would contest the election, Alam said that he is not in the race but if the responsibilty is given he will stand up to it.
On August 9, Ajay Kumar resigned from the post of Jharkhand Congress President after the party's poor performance in the general elections.
Congress had managed to win only one of the 14 constituencies in Jharkhand.
The assembly elections in Jharkhand are due in November-December this year to elect 81 members of the Legislative Assembly.
