Riya along with her mother had gone to a village pond this morning to take bath. While bathing, Riya slipped into the deep and went missing.

Jamtara (Jharkhand): A 14-year-old girl drowned while taking bath in a pond near Niche para village under Nala police limits in Jharkhand's Jamtara district on Wednesday.

The deceased girl has been identified as Riya Goswami of the same village.

According to sources, Riya along with her mother had gone to a village pond this morning to take bath. While bathing, Riya slipped into the deep and went missing.

Hearing the scream of the deceased girl's mother, locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue her but failed.

Later, fire services personnel reached the spot and fished out Riya's lifeless body from deep water after two hours of the search operation.

Reportedly, the body has been handed over to the bereaved family members after post-mortem. Jamtara police registered a case of unnatural death in this connection.
