Jharkhand: Rains leave 12 dead, 11 injured in 24 hours

Twelve people were killed by lightning strikes accompanied by rain in several parts of Jharkhand. Many people were reported to be injured in rain-related incidents.

Ranchi: At least 12 people died while 11 were severely injured due to lightning strikes and rain accompanied by thunderstorm that lashed several parts of Jharkhand in the last 24 hours.

Three people including a woman died in Barni and Arara area of Giridih. A woman named Lalita Devi died in Merkhogoundi village while a girl died and a farmer got injured in Karnapura Panchayat of Bhojdaha. Bajnath Verma, a resident of Barni is under treatment in the hospital.

Another woman and a man died in Lohardaga while five children including twins have been severely injured due to lightning and are undergoing treatment in hospital.

Two women died while they were grazing their cattle in Godda's Kusumghati.

Earlier on 26 June, four people were killed and six others injured in lightning strikes in Palamu district.

A few days back, at least 83 people were killed by lightning in various districts of Bihar, and 24 in Uttar Pradesh while many people were reported to be injured as heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed several areas of north India.

Out of the 83 dead in Bihar, 13 people were killed in Gopalganj district alone. Heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning has lashed various parts of Bihar even before the onset of the monsoon in the state.
