Ranchi: A COVID patient died unattended while searching for drinking water at Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Thursday morning, alleged deceased's family members.
According to sources, the deceased woman, a resident of Hesalpeda village under Pithorimaya police station, was admitted to RIMS surgery department with stomach pain on October 2. She had tested positive for Covid-19 on October 4 during treatment.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Tati, the husband of the deceased, said, "My wife had been admitted to the Department of Surgery on October 2. The CT scan was supposed to be done but during the coronavirus test on October 4, she was found infected with the virus. Thereafter, she was shifted to the corona ward at around 12 o’clock on the night of October 7."
"On Thursday night, she called me and said she needed drinking water and no one was around. I went to the medicine department’s D-1 ward, where she was admitted, with some water, but then it was locked from outside and not a single doctor or nurse was present. After the death of my wife, the RIMS management is trying to hush up the entire matter," he said.
On other hand, Dr SK Sinha, Acting Superintendent of RIMS said," The woman was mentally unstable. I do not have any information about any such incident of staff negligence. If something like this has happened, I would ask the patient’s family members to register a complaint and we will take action against the guilty."
