Ranchi: A doctor from the state of Jharkhand is being probed for allegedly prescribing a contraceptive method to a woman suffering from abdominal pain.
According to reports, a woman employee went to a government hospital in Ghatshila complaining about abdominal pain on July 23.
Later, she alleged that Dr Ashraf Badar, the doctor in-charge at that time, prescribed a form of contraception as a cure for the pain.
The events came to light when the woman arrived at the medical store with the prescription form, where she was duly informed that prescribed medicine was a condom.
Besides, the issue created a ruckus in the state assembly as well when Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislator Kunal Sarangi raised the issue following the complaint filed by the woman.
Based on the complaint, a three-member medical team with one psychiatrist was constituted to probe the entire issue.
The team began their investigation on July 28 and prescription form along with medical registry was seized from the district hospital.
"Based on the complaint of the woman, a medical team has been constituted which has started the probe," Dr Prabhakar Kumar Bhagat, a member of the inquiry team, said.
However, the doctor in question has claimed conspiracy behind the incident and accused the other medical staff of fudging the issue.
The incident is being reported at a time when the doctor-patient relationship in the country is worsening following repeated cases of assaults on doctors and medical practitioners demand for better working conditions.
