New Delhi: An all-party delegation headed by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi, to submit a memorandum demanding caste census.
While briefing the media, after the meeting Jharkhand CM said, "We met Union Minister Amit Shah regarding our demand for the caste-based census. He has listened attentively. We hope that the central government will take concrete steps in this direction."
"If there will be a caste-based census, then the schemes of the government will reach the weaker sections resulting in their upliftment," he added.
Earlier on August 23, an 11-member delegation, led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a caste-based census. They said that the Prime Minister heard their demands and added that the delegation had asked him to take a decision on the issue.

Soren also informed about the review meeting on 'Left-Wing extremism' under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said, "The meeting is being convened to discuss about Naxal-affected areas and their problems. The Union Home Minister will also review the ongoing operations against Naxals."
