Ranchi (Jharkhand): Over the past few months, people's dependence on the Internet has increased due to the coronavirus pandemic. Whether shopping online or sending money to someone's account, many have switched to online platforms, internet banking and online payments.

However, networks of cyber thugs spread across the internet have made such online activity dangerous, as many people are falling prey to online fraud.

WHERE TO REGISTER COMPLAINT OF CYBER FRAUD

It has often been seen that common people get caught in the web of cyber crimes by their own mistakes. They themselves reveal their debit card number, credit card number, CVV, OTP to someone without any verification and are easily caught in the trap of fraud. Therefore, one should always be careful in these matters. Even after all precautions, if you are a victim of cyber fraud, then first go to your local police station and file a complaint.

According to Ranchi City SP Saurabh, in addition to the local police station, cyber police station and online FIR, one can also file a complaint of cyber fraud on 'Dial 100'. At the same time, there are many helpline numbers to assist the victims of cyber fraud. There are several other helpline numbers as well where one can see action against cyber criminals by registering their grievances.

POOR REPORTING A BIG CONCERN

According to City SP Saurabh, low reporting of cyber crime is the biggest concern for the police. If you have to take quick action on cyber cases, then reporting for that is also very important. Therefore, the police also urged the people to register their complaint in any format. All cases must be reported to the police to break the spine of cyber criminals, he said.

GO DIRECTLY TO CYBER POLICE STATION IN MAJOR CASES

According to the City SP, if there is a small fraud, then you should go to the local police station and file a case. However, if there is a big fraud, then you reach the cyber police station directly. The cyber station works under the CID and the CID has all the technical know-how required in the investigation against cyber criminals. However, the City SP also said that if a fraud occurs, one must get the case registered anywhere. Once the major cases of cyber fraud are lodged at the police station, these reach the cyber police station for further investigation. So it is important that the case should be registered.

NOTIFY BANK IN CASE OF FRAUD

According to a cyber expert from Ranchi, as soon as the crime is detected, one must take immediate steps. While withdrawing money from your credit card or doing net banking, if there is any fraud, the first step to be taken is to ensure that no more money is withdrawn from it. So, it is important to immediately contact the bank and get the credit card blocked.

If the email or social networking account is hacked, the recovery process will have to go to the related website. Go to the log-in screen to see if the link to forget password or recover account appears. If the website has been hacked, then first try to save your important data so as to avoid further losses. Please also note the date and time of the crime.

A CASE CAN ALSO BE FILED IN COURT

According to the cyber expert, a cyber fraud case can be filed at the local police station case. "This is the common right of the people. But if an FIR is not registered in the police station, then one can go to the court and file a case under Section 156/3 of CrPC," he said.
