Jharkhand: 69 students of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School test positive for Covid-19 in Chakulia

The children have been kept in isolation in the school and the state health department is monitoring their health condition.

Ghatshila: Amid a recent surge in fresh covid infections in Jharkhand, nearly 69 students of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Chakulia block of East Singhbhum district have been detected covid positive. All girls have been kept in isolation in the school premises.

On Monday, 46 girls of the school were tested covid positive. The state health department officials reached the school this morning and conducted RT-PCR test for many others. After which, 23 girls were detected covid positive. All 69 students have been isolated in the school premises itself.

Dr. Ranjit Kumar Murmu, the medical officer in charge of the Community Health Center said that the health department officials are constantly monitoring the health condition of the students as well as keeping a close watch to prevent the infection from spreading. Block Development Officer Devlal Oraon and Circle Officer Jaywanti Devgam also visited the school today and interacted with the teachers. Along with inquiring about the health condition of the students, they took stock of the covid protocols that were being followed in the school.

Necessary guidelines have been issued to the school for maintaining social distancing and hygiene norms. MLA Sameer Mahanty said that he has instructed the district officials to see to it that the covid positive girls get proper treatment so that they can recover fast. Earlier, it was reported that Jharkhand had run out of Covishield vaccines in January and beficiaries were administered Covaxin. As per the data available with the Union health department, 13.68 lakh people aged 18 to 59 years have been administered booster doses in the state.
