Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range Vijay Kumar on Thursday said that the militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out a 'pre-planned' attack on the BJP’s Bandipora leader Wasim Bari.
"The case has been registered and further investigations are underway. Meanwhile, all the 10 personal security officers (PSOs) deployed for the protection of slain leader have been dismissed from service and arrested as well," Kumar said after visiting the site of the incident along with the DIG North Kashmir and SSP Bandipora.
The police team headed by IGP Kashmir also examined the CCTV footage at the police station which is quite opposite to the slain BJP leader’s house.

"We have checked the CCTV footage in the presence of Army and CRPF officers. Two militants from Lashkar-e-Taiba have carried the attack. One is a local who has been identified as Abid Haqqani and another is a foreigner. Local militant Abid fired at the trio from a close range with a pistol while the other one was guiding him," Kumar said, adding, "The trio sustained head injuries and succumbed on the way to the hospital. Both militants will be tracked and neutralised soon."
Giving more details of the attack, Kumar said, "When Bari along with his father and brother were shot dead at their shop while his PSOs were in their room. All the 10 security personnel of the slain BJP leader have been dismissed from their services for negligence and have been arrested as well."
As per Jammu and Kashmir Police, at about 8:45 pm on Wednesday, terrorists fired indiscriminately upon Bari and his family members outside their shops/residence in Bandipora's Muslimabad area. Bari along with his father Bashir Ahmad and brother Umer Bashir was killed in the attack.
