Srinagar: A video of a girl, which the Sikh community in Srinagar said was kidnapped, has gone viral on social media. In the clip, the girl identifies herself as Dalmeet, who according to the Sikh community was forced to convert and marry.

The girl said in the video that she converted in 2012 and married her batchmate in 2014. She further said that what she did was out of her own free will and no one forced her to change her religion, claiming that it was the people of her own community that harassed her.

She said that she is a 29-year-old woman and not a minor. She also said that people from her own community tried to force her to change her statement before the court and threatened her.

She said that she is happy and appealed not to politicize the matter or make it a religious issue.

A few days ago the local Sikh community along with some organizations held a protest in Srinagar's Bhagat area after one of the girls, claimed to have been abducted, got married in court. The protestors claimed that the girls were being forced at gunpoint to change their religion. They demanded that there should be a law to deal with such issues in Jammu and Kashmir.

After the protest, they met Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and said that he assured them of strict action. They also released a video to thank Sinha for his statement.
