Srinagar: Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said on Friday.
The encounter broke out between the security forces and militants in Chewa Ullar area of Pulwama on Thursday afternoon.
"All three militants were neutralised during an ongoing operation in Pulwama. Two security personnel have also suffered minor injuries," Inspector General Of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar confirmed to ETV Bharat.
He said, "A joint team of security forces launched a cordon and search operation after an input about presence of militants hiding in the area. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at a search party of the forces."
The identity and affiliation of the slain militants are being ascertained by the police.
According to the official, all the three militants are local youths who had recently taken up arms to join militancy. They belonged to the Tral area.
This is the 12th gunfight in South Kashmir in June in which 33 militants have been killed so far.
Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in the area as a preventive measure.
Two terrorists were neutralised by security forces in an encounter in Sopore area of Baramulla district on June 25.
Earlier, on June 23, two unidentified terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bandzoo area of Pulwama while a CRPF personnel who had sustained a bullet injury succumbed at a hospital.
A militant was also killed on June 20 in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, security forces neutralised a total of eight terrorists in two parallel operations stretched over two days in Pulwama and Shopian districts of Jammu and Kashmir in past one week.
While a total of three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists were eliminated in Pulwama, a mixed group of five JeM and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorists were neutralised by forces in Shopian.
