Terror funding case: Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq arrives in Delhi

Hurriyat Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq arrived in Delhi to appear before NIA in connection with terror funding case. The separatist leader had earlier cited security reasons for the inability to honour the first two summons and requested the NIA to question him in Srinagar.

New Delhi: Kashmiri Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq arrived in Delhi on Monday morning to appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for questioning in connection with J&K terror funding case.

He took an early flight to New Delhi to appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA has served him three summons.The separatist leader had earlier cited security reasons for the inability to honour the first two summons and requested the NIA to question him in Srinagar.

" I will not travel to Delhi, nor I will turn up for any investigation come what way," the Mirwaiz had said during his Friday sermon on March 15 at historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar.

The third summons served on him has specified that the security concerns of the Mirwaiz would be taken care of by the NIA in Delhi.The decision to appear before the NIA was taken by the Mirwaiz on Sunday following an executive meeting of the Hurriyat group.It was also decided that executive members of the Hurriyat, including Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone and Masroor Ansari would accompany the Mirwaiz to the national capital.The Mirwaiz has appealed people to remain calm and peaceful and not react adversely to his being summoned to Delhi.

The NIA had carried out searches in February at seven locations of separatists in Kashmir, including that of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in connection with the case.

The agency had claimed to have found several incriminating documents, including letterheads of different terrorist organisations as well as high-end communication systems, during the searches.

According to it, the teams had also found electronic devices including laptops, e-tablets, mobile phones, pen drive, communication system and DVRs.

Srinagar: Hurriyat Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq leaves from his residence in Srinagar on Monday morning for Delhi. He will appear before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a terror funding case today.





A few days back, the agency served third notice to him asking him to appear before it in  Delhi. 



Mirwaiz chaired a meeting with his party leaders at his Nigeen residence before making the announcement that he will face questioning at NIA headquarters.



Earlier, while responding to the two notice he had expressed security concerns for regarding his visit to Delhi. 



In the third summon, NIA assured that his security will be taken care of by them.
