Srinagar: Religious preacher Sarjan Barkati who was arrested two days after delivering a sermon on Eid-ul-Fitr has been released, police said on Saturday.
"Sarjan had delivered a sermon during Eid ul Fitr prayers at his native village Reban. Following which he was arrested by the local police," a senior police official said, adding, "he has been released today."
The official didn't divulge more into development while suggesting waiting for the police statement.
Meanwhile, Barkati's family too has confirmed the development.
"He has reached home and is doing well," a close relative of Barkati said while requesting anonymity.
Interestingly, Barkati was released during the last week of October 2021 after being in jail for over four years. He was arrested on October 01, 2016, while protests following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Muzzafar Wani was at a peak in the Valley.
