Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Sarna said that every problem can be solved with brotherhood and love and urged the people to continue the brotherhood that has been seen between Sikhs and Muslims in the Valley till date. He also condemned the provocative statements made over the issue and said if the woman had married the man arrested over alleged kidnapping, then the administration would not have handed over her to her family.

Further, he also apologised to the people of Kashmir for any hurt caused by the statements of a Sikh leader from Delhi in the backdrop of the alleged kidnapping of a woman from the community. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, president of the Delhi Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee, on Monday called for a law that mandates permission of parents in inter-religion marriages. He also said he spoke to Union home minister Amit Shah regarding this.

It may be mentioned here that a delegation from the Sikh community had alleged that two Sikh girls were allegedly abducted, forcibly converted and married off to middle-aged men in Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation led by Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht had submitted a memorandum to Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy demanding an anti-conversion law be imposed in Jammu and Kashmir like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
