Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir): Former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti's mother, Gulshan Nazir, is likely to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday days after she was summoned for questioning in an alleged money laundering case.

Nazir, in her seventies, is the wife of PDP founder and former CM late Mufti Sayeed. She got the summons on July 6 and was asked to appear before the central probe agency at its office in Srinagar's Rajbagh. Sources said that Gulshan Nazir is likely to appear before the ED office in Rajbagh at 11.30 am and she will be accompanied by Mehbooba Mufti.

About the summons to her mother, Mehbooba had said that the government of India is misusing investigating agencies to intimidate political opponents. "ED sent a summon to my mother to appear in person for unknown charges. In its attempts to intimidate political opponents, (Government of India) doesn't even spare senior citizens. Agencies like NIA (National Investigation Agency) and ED are now its tools to settle scores," she had tweeted.

Mehbooba Mufti was herself questioned in the alleged money laundering case by ED in March this year in Srinagar, about which she had said her party was targeted for the stand on Articles 35A and 370. After questioning, she had said that her party will continue to fight for the rights of the people and the restoration of Article 370, which was abrogated by the BJP government on August 5, 2019.

Earlier, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah was questioned by ED in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association fund scam for a day in the same office in Srinagar.
