Meet Faizan Farooq, a mechanic turned RAP singer

Faizan Farooq, popularly known as RAP singer is making headlines in Kashmir. Faizan, who lives in Sopore town of north Kashmir is a mechanic by profession and is doing RAP music for the last ten years.

Srinagar: Kashmir might not seem the most likely venue for rap music, but somehow it has made a way in the valley.

Faizan Farooq, popularly known as RAP singer is making headlines in Kashmir.

Faizan, who lives in Sopore town of north Kashmir, says he has been doing the musical form for last few years. Though, he is a mechanic by profession, in the locality he is famous as a RAP singer.

It was in 2011 when the RAP music caught his attention, however, he composed his first song in 2016 which was about Kashmir.

The main focus of his music is related to daily situations around him and he composes them in a creative way to convey message to the people.

"I always wanted to do something for Kashmir," he says. "I am trying to narrate the pain of fellow Kashmiris through my music."

Faizan believes that Kashmiris have lot of potential and talent of doing things and all they need is a proper platform to take their talent on next level.

So far, Faizan has composed many songs among which "Soun Watan (My motherland)", 'Voice of Kashmir' and 'Tears of a Mother' had hit the social media and become quite famous.

The young boy has received a lot of appreciation for his talent from the online audience.

Without any proper guidance and mentor, Faizan has composed all songs on his own.

"If we could have been give proper guidance and facilities from the government, we could have done much better," he added.

From the last two decades, Kashmir has witnessed a boom in contemporary music. Hundreds of youngsters have started independent rap music bands to express their feelings, the popular ones being MC Kash, Alif among others who have already inspired many youth towards music.
