Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, DMK, chief and leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, M K Stalin on Wednesday welcomed the release of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti from detention in her official residence in Jammu and Kashmir and demanded the release of other political detainees in a tweet.
In the tweet, Stalin stated that he was pleased to hear that Mehbooba Mufti has been released from detention after 14 months. "I urge the government to release all other political detainees as well. The democratic processes, which have been suspended during this time, must also be reinstated," Stalin wrote in the post.

Mufti, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, was released on October 13 as the Union Territory administration revoked the Public Safety Act charges against her. She was detained over a year following the abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile state.
Mufti, 60, who was initially put under preventive custody on August 5 last year. Later, she was booked under the stringent PSA on February 6. She was shifted to her official residence on April 7 and the authorities declared her residence as a subsidiary jail.
