New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel on Wednesday said that PM Modi was right about Ladakh having the potential to become a global tourist hotspot, as the region is a haven of peace.
In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Patel recalled PM Modi's first televised address to the nation after the government revoked the special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.
Modi had said that Ladakh has the potential to become the biggest center of Spiritual Tourism, Adventure Tourism, and Ecotourism.
"Whatever PM Modi said about tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is absolutely true. The region is the world's biggest iconic site," Patel said.
Adding that Ladakh was the tourism ministry's focus now, Patel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might visit Leh in the first week of September.
With Ladakh all set to become a Union Territory, Patel said that the only challenge for the ministry now will be to tackle the influx of tourists visiting the region.
"Ladakh is a peaceful haven, is a model for cleanliness, and has cultural heritage. Tourists visiting Ladakh will definitely be satisfied. All kinds of tourists will love the place," he said.
"However, the only challenge for us now will be to tackle the increasing number of visitors. We must ensure that Ladakh's peace and culture is not affected," he added.
