The assault sparked strong protest by the Kashmiri students studying at GMC Jammu on Monday with the protesters demanding a stern action against the culprits. As per the protesting students, a student of 1st year MBBS shared a controversial link of the The Kerala Story in the Whatsapp group of the students which was objected to by a Kashmiri student.

The Kashmiri student, the protesting students claimed, objected to the link saying that the group was meant only for academic purposes. The protesting students said that this infuriated the rival students who attacked the Kashmiri student leading to injuries in his head. The protesting students alleged that the accused student called rightwing elements to the hostel who also joined him in assaulting the Kashmiri student.

They further alleged that the rightwing students also chanted religious slogans while barging into the GMC premises. The protesting students demanded for a fair investigation into the assault saying it was a deliberate attempt to disturb the peaceful atmosphere on the campus. Principal GMC Shashi Sudhan Sharma also visited the protesting students and assured them that action will be taken as per the law.
