Srinagar: In the backdrop of Pakistan writing a petition to the United Nations and citing the incident wherein a delegation comprising of several Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi was not allowed to visit the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, PDP MP Nazir Ahmad Laway said that Kashmir issue was always discussed in the UN.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, the Rajya Sabha MP said that Kashmir issue is a complex one which was discussed at the UN level.
"We believe the issue needs to be discussed in the UN," said PDP MP.
"PDP believes the Kashmir issue is a complex one after the modification of Article 370. People are suffering due to lack of medicine and children are being deprived of education as schools remain vacant amidst the restrictions in the valley," he added.
Speaking about the agenda of various political parties, the PDP MP claimed that his party's agenda revolves around the citizens who have been suffering since the modification of almost all provisions of Article 370.
"Issue in Jammu and Kashmir is not about development, it is about sentiment. It is about respect. Citizens of any state want respect first and they will think about development," Nazir Ahmad Laway said.
"People are suffering because of communication clapdown, economic loss due to restrictions in tourism and lack of education as schools remain vacant after reopening," he said.
Peoples Democratic Party MP Nazir Ahmad Laway also claimed that people of Jammu and Kashmir need respect and not development as promised by the Union government after the modification of Article 370.
Rajya Sabha MP said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of respect and for them, call for development does not resonate with their needs.
Earlier, Azad was not allowed to enter Srinagar once and Jammu twice and was sent back to Delhi. Similarly, CPI and CPI-M General Secretaries D. Raja and Sitaram Yechury were also not allowed to enter Srinagar and were detained at the airport and then sent back to Delhi, saying attempts should not be made to disturb the gradual restoration of normal life.
