Srinagar: Unidentified militants on Tuesday opened fire on a police vehicle in the Rainawari area of Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. However, no casualties have been reported so far. Police and paramilitary forces have launched a search operation in the area.
It may be recalled that on July 16, a clash took place in the Alamdar Colony of Srinagar in which two militants were killed. Both the militants belonged to the Natipora area of Srinagar.
IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar had recently said that there were reports of militants being transported on the outskirts of Srinagar and they would be brought to book soon.

Earlier in July 2020, police claimed that there were no militants in Srinagar. After the killing of Lashkar-e-Taiba-linked militant Ashfaq Rashid in Srinagar's Ranbirgarh in July, police claimed that Srinagar was now free of militants.
