A major tragedy was averted after security forces in Jammu and Kashmir detected and defused a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the Srinagar-Bandipora road.

The suspected IED consisting a small cylinder with a timer was found near a bridge on river Erin in Bandipore district earlier in the morning. As a precautionary measure, the movement of all the vehicles were immediately stopped and traffic was diverted to other routes.

"The sanitation drive has been carried out and the suspected IED is being neutralised by the bomb disposal squad," informed Chinar Corps, Indian Army.

Srinagar: A suspected object was found near Popchan/Nadhihal on Bandipora-Srinagar road by Army's Road Opening Party (ROP) on Saturday morning.  

"Traffic stopped, Joint Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) is on the job," SSP Bandipora said.

Further details in this regard awaited. 

Earlier on June 9, security forces recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) during a road opening party (ROP) checking in North Kashmir.  

The IED was recovered during the checking at Ladoora Rafiabad on Baramulla-Handwara highway.

Few days back, a major  incident of a vehicle-borne IED blast was averted by the timely input and action by Pulwama Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Army.

On close look, the vehicle was seen to be carrying heavy explosives in a drum on the rear seat. 

The in-situ explosion of IED-laden car was carried out in Pulwama and a car was suspected of being loaded with explosive material on rear seat.
