J&K: Dry season for farmers after modification of Article 370

The fruit and dry fruit growers of Jammu and Kashmir are facing hardships due to the lack of transport facilities in the valley. The farmers are storing walnuts in their houses because there is no way to take them to the traders. If the present situation prevails, they would have to go through a heavy loss.

J&K: Dry season for farmers after modification of Article 370

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The farmers and traders in Jammu and Kashmir are facing a situation that has lately added a lot to their hardships.

The lack of transport facilities in the valley has made them vulnerable to the atrocities of life.

There are hundreds of fruit and dry fruit growers who are unable to sell their produce due to the prevailing uncertainties.

At this time every year, different kinds of fruits, dry fruits and crops are traded in and out of the valley on a large scale.

Farmers in J&K are suffering due to the modification of Article 370 in the valley.

But since the modification of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the sales and supply of fruits like apples and pears have deteriorated tremendously.

This has, in turn, made the farmers and traders really upset.

Dry fruits like walnuts and almonds could also not be sold. It is certainly a dry season for the farmers in terms of trade.

Due to the present circumstances, the growers are removing walnuts from trees and storing them in their houses.

According to them, walnuts are their only wealth and it is not easy for them to transport them to the traders and markets these days.

Their only option at present is to store the walnuts in their houses in order to sell them when the situations turn favourable.

If the present situation prevails longer, a lot of crops will go into waste resulting in unbearable loses for farmers.
