Internet suspended in South Kashmir ahead of 7th phase of DDC polls

According to sources, internet services in Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian have been suspended due to security reasons ahead of the seventh phase of District Development Council Elections on December 16.

Kashmir: Internet services have been suspended in four districts of South Kashmir ahead of the seventh phase of District Development Council Elections.

According to sources, internet services in Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag and Shopian have been suspended due to security reasons. Sources added that the service will be restored after the culmination of polls.

“Internet services have been suspended today in South Kashmir as the elections are going on. It was suspended in earlier six phases as well," sources said.

The DDC elections are the first major electoral exercise taking place in J&K after the revocation of Article 370 in August last year and the bifurcation of the former state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The seventh-phase of polls will be held on December 16 and eighth phase on December 19 and the counting will be held on December 22.
