Srinagar: Handicrafts Department in Jammu and Kashmir organised an awareness programme for Kashmiri artisans on various central and state schemes meant for promotion of Kashmir handicrafts.
The awareness camp was held at Exhibition Ground, Kashmir Haat in Srinagar. The experts from handicrafts department told the artisans of various new central and state government schemes for the promotion of Kashmiri handicrafts.
During the awareness program, a large number of artisans from various districts of Kashmir valley were made aware about adopting handicrafts as a means of livelihood to earn a decent income.
Sajad Naqash, Joint Director of Handicrafts said, "The main aim of our department is to make people aware about the schemes that government of J-K has introduced for the artisan community. This camp has been organized for the purpose of creating awareness among handicraft experts. People should know that apart from the National and International market, there is a huge local market for our handicrafts. The main motive is to preserve this dying art. We are going to give them training at all the levels."
