Srinagar: Have you ever thought of getting inked and then gave up the idea as the body tattoos are mostly permanent? Sometimes tattoos can bring embarrassment or get you in an awkward situation. A young tattoo artist from Kashmir has solution to all your worries.

26 year old Mubashir Ahmed, a resident of Srinagar's Bemina area, has been inking people from over one and half years. During his short career as an tattoo artist Mubashir has become household name for his excellent designs and creativity.

"Initially, I used to do painting and sketching but I always had a passion for tattoos. As there was very less scope for the tattoo artists in Kashmir, I had to keep my passion on the shelf for several years. But then, some one and half years ago it eventually happened and now I have my own tattoo studio in Srinagar," Mubashir told ETV Bharat.

He further says, "There was no family support. I was asked to leave house when I got my first tattoo. In the conservative society of Kashmir, tattoos are considered a taboo. 70-80 percent of enthusiasts who got inked in Delhi, Mumbai or other Indian cities hide their tattoos when in the Valley."

Despite all odds, Mubashir took tattoo making as an opportunity and learned the art through internet.

"I learned tattoo making through videos available on the internet and started practicing on my friends. Eventually, I started my own studio, Mubi's tattoo studio, where I make tattoos on customers back, chest, shoulder and where ever they can hide from their family," he said, adding, "Apart from inking bodies I also do laser and piercing. I provide all the services here, Kashmiris don't need to go outside now. Most of my customers are couples who are interested in themed tattoos. I am getting good response."

A young tattoo enthusiast at Mubi's tattoo studio says that he is fully satisfied with Mubashir's work and plans on getting inked again.

"I was dreaming of getting a tattoo since I was in class 8. As there were no tattoo artists in Kashmir, I was planning to go outside Jammu and Kashmir. Mubashir came as an messiah and inked me. The first tattoo I got on my arm is "mom & dad". It is beautiful and thanks to Mubashir. I have two tattoos on my body and I am planning for more in coming days."
