Jammu: A year after it was marked as a union territory, Jammu residents now hope that the discrimination they used to face will be a thing of past and spotlight will be on the all-round development of the province.
Prior to abrogation of Article 370 and 35A on 5 August 2019, the voices alleging discrimination were often heard from the erstwhile state's Jammu division. However, not much attention was paid to them.
But, things seem to have taken a turn for the better with residents telling ETV Bharat that they believe that the province will now get it's due.
While some look forward to the central government jobs, others say the updation of the property rights was the need of the hour.
Jammu residents also feel that the abrogation of the articles has given impunity to them as "now the administration will take every decision keeping the interest of Jammu people paramount."
The changing times also seem exciting for the women of the province, with many opportunities opening up in job sectors and inclusive property rights.
"Now our daughters will get their property inheritance right despite marrying outside Jammu and Kashmir," said a resident.
However, it is noteworthy that the administration has not yet made any major announcements regarding jobs, employment or women issues.
