Massive search operation in Budgam after militants open fire on security forces

Budgam (J&K): A search operation turned into an encounter in the Magam area of ​​central Kashmir's Budgam district on Sunday morning. During the search operation, gunshots were heard in the area. The security forces started a search operation in Rudbug village of Magam area in the morning when suddenly the militants hiding opened fire on them triggering an encounter.

After the initial exchange of fire, the firing stopped. Security forces began searching the area afterward with reports saying the militants might have escaped. Earlier, joint teams of Army, Police and CRPF cordoned off Rudbug and adjoining areas and sealed the entry and exit routes to these areas as well as roads.

The people walking were being questioned and searched. Sources said that the operation was carried out after receiving information about the movement of militants in these areas. Throughout the day, the search operation was intensified by the security forces in the entire area and the perimeter was extended to the adjoining villages till the last information. No loss of life or property was reported in this encounter and search operation.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha Sunday said the perpetrators responsible for the recent terror attack on a village in Rajouri district will have to pay a heavy price for their heinous action. Addressing the people of the Union Territory in his monthly radio programme Awaam Ki Awaaz', the Lt Governor said the whole nation stands united in the fight against terrorism.

Seven people belonging to a particular community were killed and 14 others injured in a twin strike by terrorists at Dhangri village of Rajouri on January 1 and 2. Paying tributes to civilians who lost their lives in the terror attack, Sinha said concrete measures are being taken to ensure families of martyrs live a life of dignity.

"Perpetrators will have to pay a heavy price for their heinous action. The whole nation stands united in the fight against terror," he said. "Today, the goal before us is clear. With active public participation, we are treading the path of rapid, inclusive, equitable and sustainable development of Jammu Kashmir," the L-G said.

He said people's participation is needed for effective implementation of projects on the ground. Sharing inspiring stories of the citizens selflessly serving humanity, the Lt Governor made special mention of women change-makers who are driving socio-economic change in the society. Women are key drivers of social transformation we also must draw inspiration from those who are shining examples of Nari Shakti and empowering others economically and socially, he said.
