Srinagar: Dr Farooq Abdullah-led People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is expected to announce the list of its candidates for the first phase District Development Council (DDC) elections on Thursday. This comes days after PAGD announced in Jammu that they will be participating in the upcoming elections.
"I just reached Srinagar. I believe the list of PAGD's candidates for upcoming DDC polls is being prepared and the announcement of the same might happen today," Member Parliament and PAGD chairperson Dr Farooq Abdullah told ETV Bharat on phone.
He said, "Since I have just reached Srinagar, I can't tell you exactly when and how this is going to happen. As soon as it is done, the list will be made public."
Pertinently, today is the last day for filing nominations for the first phase of elections.
Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar asserted that the PAGD would release the list of candidates for the first phase of elections today.
"The parties under PAGD are not participating in the elections for power but to become the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Sagar said.

On Monday, Farooq Abdullah had announced in Jammu that parties under the banner of PAGD will contest polls on their symbols but there will be only one candidate of the alliance in each segment.
"We don't have a common election symbol as the polls were announced in a hurry," he had said, adding that candidates will contest these elections on their respective party symbols.
Last month, PAGD was formed to fight for the restoration of the special status of erstwhile state and peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.
The PAGD comprises of six mainstream political parties viz National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Conference (PC), Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)) and Awami National Conference (ANC).
