Central government bans Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front

Taking a tough stance against separatist organisations in the Kashmir valley, the Union government has banned Yasim Malik led JKLF. The MHA has declared the organisation unlawful accusing it of fueling violence in the valley.

New Delhi: The centre on Friday declared Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) led by Yasin Malik as an unlawful organisation.

Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba in a statement said, "Central government has declared Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (Yasin Malik faction) as unlawful association under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. This is in accordance with the policy of zero tolerance against terrorism followed by the government."

He also said, "Government is trying relentlessly to curb separatist organisations in the valley which are a threat to unity and integrity of India.

According to the reports, NIA and ED have been tasked with curbing such movements

Gauba added, "Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front led by Yasin Malik has spearheaded the separatist ideology in the valley and it has been at the forefront of separatist activities and violence since 1988."

Earlier, the centre had banned the Jammat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir.
