Srinagar: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday claimed that it would not participate in the delimitation process in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a press conference, PDP's chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari said that the PDP has no incumbent Member of Parliament and MLA, so it cannot participate in the delimitation exercise." To participate in the delimitation process, you must have an elected representative of the people which we do not have," he added.

Responding to a question on what the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) will do regarding the same, Bukhari said the other parties in Jammu and Kashmir can decide on the delimitation separately. Raising the issue of tax notice sent to some residents around the Cantonment area in Srinagar, the PDP spokesperson demanded complete revocation of the decision and said that the government was pushing people to the wall.

"At a time when the whole country is going through Covid-19 and the economic fallout of continuous lockdowns in Kashmir since August 2019, the tax notice to the house owners is unfortunate. Instead of coming forward and helping people to get through the financial crisis, the government is burdening them with such moves," he said.

Talking about the Army's objection to the construction of AIIMS in Kashmir, Bukhari said that the initiative was taken after a lot of hard work from the party’s founder late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and the administration should ensure that no hurdles are created. “Amid the current Covid-19 situation, there is a need to increase health infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir and for that, an institute like AIIMS should also be allowed to come up at the earliest for the welfare of the people,” he added.
