Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir PCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma on Thursday said the aim of seat-sharing with the regional parties was to defeat the communal forces in the District Development Council (DDC) elections, as Congress believes in secularism and not in division.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, he said, "Before the DDC elections, Congress had agreed on seat-sharing with the regional party National Conference (NC) but things could not materialise as it has also fielded its candidates on our seats, in order to indirectly support the BJP."

Sharma further criticized the BJP for running away from real issues of the people and betraying the mandate of Jammu, by making an issue out of Gupkar alliance.

He said that instead of talking about its failure in providing jobs to youths, BJP top leaders are indulged in vilifying opponents during the campaign.

The saffron party is also ignoring the fundamental fact that participation of all mainstream forces is a direct answer to Pakistan and the culture of the gun.

"Such utterances by the top ruling party leaders are highly irresponsible and creates hatred and disunity in the society," he added.
