Women corona-warriors battle spread of deadly virus in Himachal Pradesh

All-women team of Nerchauk Medical College, a COVID-19 designated hospital in Himachal Pradesh is fighting coronavirus pandemic even after encountering various personal problems amid lockdown.

Shimla: A lady team of doctors, nurses and sanitation workers at Nerchauk Medical College in Mandi District of Himchal Pradesh has been battling coronavirus despite every odd amid nationwide lockdown, a source said.

"We have been facing huge personal problems, indeed. I haven't seen my family since a month and I won't be able to meet them for many more days. Of course, they get worried but our service to the nation comes first," a nurse added.

She also said that Nerchauk Medical College was turned into a COVID-19 designated hospital soon after the cases spiked in the state. Even though the frontline workers at the hospital have been provided the PPE kit, yet they stand a chance to get infected if they unknowingly commit any negligence.

"My family initially didn't allow me to work in the hospital but later on they appreciated my efforts," a sanitation worker added.

Dr Kirti Parmar of Nerchauk Medical College elaborated, healthcare professional taking sample of corona suspects stand at a greater risk of getting infected. "Since there are not many male members out here, the work of taking corona sample is done by our women frontline corona-warrior team and we are proud of that fact," she said.

The doctor further added, patients are being taken care of with absolute conviction of recovery and all women frontline workers are involved in the process.
