Kangra: A person from Gummar Panchayat of Jwalamukhi in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh sold his cow to enable his children to get online education. According to Kuldeep, the children were not able to study these days as they do not have a smartphone, so he sold his cow for six thousand rupees only.
This poor family lives in a room inside the cowshed. Due to a problem in his spinal cord, Kuldeep is unable to make daily wages, due to which he could not even get a fixed wage for MNREGA. Due to this, his family was removed from the list of BPL families. Kuldeep's family barely manages their household expenses through domestic animals.
Kuldeep has a daughter and a son who study in fourth and second class respectively. For the past several days, they used to go to the homes of other children of their neighbourhood, but couldn't continue for long.
So, Kuldeep sold his cow and bought a smartphone for his children so that they can continue their online studies. Now his children are taking online classes from their home.
Kuldeep accused the panchayat that despite being poor, his name was dropped from the BPL list. He said that he is staying with his family in a room inside the cowshed. In the second cowshed, the remaining animals are kept. Therefore, the administration is requested to help him in view of this condition.
After hearing Kuldeep's story on ETV Bharat, many helping hands have started coming forward. Some people are talking about providing ration to their house, and some are willing to bear the expenses of his children's education.
Ramesh Dhwala, an MLA from Jwalamukhi, also reached Kuldeep's house and assured all possible help in view of the family's financial condition. MLA Ramesh Dhwala has also assured to make house and other arrangements for the family.
