Landslide in Lahaul and Spiti districts blocked the flow of Chenab River

A massive landslide in the Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh has blocked the flow of the Chenab River on Friday. This comes days after a landslide incident reported in Kinnaur district which claimed the lives of 16 people.

Lahaul and Spiti (Himachal Pradesh): Days after Kinnaur landslide incident, the flow of the Chenab River has been blocked by another massive landslide near Nalda village in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh on Friday. The landslide took place by 9 am today.

The block in the flow of the river has become a danger for the 11 adjoining villages. The river banks from Junda to Jobrang has started submerging and nearby araes are at the risk of flooding.

"River is blocked and only 10-15 per cent water is being discharged currently. Villages have been evacuated and a helicopter has been deployed for aerial survey," Sudesh Kumar Mokta, Director of Disaster Management said.

Sudesh Kumar also informed that the deployment of the NDRF team is underway, and the local administration is taking stock of everything.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Manav Verma said, "We have requested all the Panchayat Pradhans to evacuate the people from the low lying areas of nearby villages."
